Deep green herringbone flannel as a girl dog collar with a matching bow, six dollars under the two bought separately. Herringbone is the quieter choice than plaid: it carries the same winter warmth without competing with everything else in a holiday photo.

The bow attaches with two elastic loops on the back rather than one, which is what keeps a dog bow at the right angle instead of sideways. It lifts off in a second, leaving a flannel collar that works right through January. Small bows measure 4.5 inches square, Large 5.5 inches.
