Aim for variety in your palette: a mix of chocolates, chewy candies, and hard candies, plus a few statement sweets like lollipops. Estimate a few ounces per guest if it doubles as favors. Coordinating colors to your party theme makes even simple candy look styled and intentional.

A common rule is about a quarter to half a pound of candy per guest if the buffet doubles as favors, less if it is just for snacking. Offering five to eight types gives nice variety without waste. When in doubt, round up slightly, since a full, abundant-looking buffet is part of the appeal.
