There’s no better way to celebrate the 5th of May than with a fabulous Cinco de Mayo fiesta! We’ve salsa’d our way through lots of Cinco de Mayo celebrations over the years, so if you’re looking for the best Mexican fiesta ideas–you’ve come to the right place.
From colorful avocado balloon mosaics to Pink-o de Mayo cocktails; we’re spilling all of our favorites to fiesta like there’s no mañana! So, read on for the Top Five Best Cinco de Mayo Party Theme Ideas, and must-have party decorations.
1. Fa-la-la-la-llama Fiesta
We’re kicking things off with this no-drama llama-themed Cinco de Mayo party idea. The key to this fiesta? Bright colors, fringe garlands, and lots and lots of llama decor. These tissue paper fan garlands are a Bonjour Fête favorite because they’re inexpensive, easy to set up, and come in tons of different colors.
We recommend layering your garlands and banners for a fun, eclectic feel. And if you’re really wanting to spice things up, add a multi-color balloon garland and an authentic Mexican piñata!
Since this celebration calls for a whole lotta llamas, we recommend decorating with those fuzzy friends anywhere you can. Food and drink picks are always at the top of our Cinco de Mayo party supply list, so we topped off our fiery fiesta cupcakes and cake with a few boho llama picks.
These picks are perfect for any Mexican party, but they’re especially popular with the little llamas. Add them along with some llama plates and napkins, and you’ll have the cutest kid-friendly fiesta!
2. Cactus Fringe Fiesta
This next Cinco de Mayo party is sure to prickle any cactus-lover’s fancy! Going with a cactus theme is always a fabulous idea for a fiesta. All you really need are some desert green decorations and cute cactus tableware.
And, since we’re layering lovers, we went with these green octagonal plates under some cactus-shaped die cut ones. Then, set out some cactus napkins, cups, and green wooden cutlery for the total tropic tablescape.
For decorations, this cactus-detailed fiesta siesta banner complements the other prickly products wonderfully. Hang it over your dining table or living room mantle for an easy and effortless Cinco de Mayo decoration!
Last but not least, we recommend a desert-themed dessert like this cactus covered cake. So tasty, we give it two arms up!
Sweet treats are always welcome after all that spicy Mexican food, so we included some colorful cupcakes and sugar cookies as well.
3. Cactus Flowers & Cocktails Fiesta
If you’re throwing a fiesta for your señoritas, we love the idea of spinning this celebration into a cactus flowers and cocktails theme! You can stick with the same tableware, just add some colorful accents, floral details, and, of course lots of margaritas.
For extra fun, make sure to include tiny succulents or little cactus gifts to hand out as party favors. This cactus flower candle and prickly pear keychain are some of our faves! Not only are these fiesta favors pretty and unique, they also double as an adorable addition to your other Cinco de Mayo decor. De nada!
4. Holy Guacamole Fiesta
Since guac is extra and so are we, this avocado-crazy Cinco de Mayo party theme is one of our muchas favorites. We decorated with a spectacular avocado balloon installation, colorful party fans, and a fabulous fiesta floral arrangement.
To get this party started, we hung more colorful crepe paper garlands and banners. We love alternating textures and colors, so a papel picado garland would also fit this fiesta beautifully. The more hanging decorations you have, the better!
And, to make the space feel more cohesive, we put a bouquet of flowers that matched our color scheme on top of an adorable paper mache taco as the centerpiece. The perfect combination of ay yi yi and oh la la!
As you’ve seen, fuego fiesta colors are not only necessary for Cinco de Mayo decor, but also for Cinco de Mayo tableware. We bring out these bright bamboo plate sets any chance we have because they’re eco-friendly, reusable, and go with just about anything.
To get this look, place a different color plate at each setting, and layer some smaller striped plates on top. Finish it off with a matching striped cup, boho printed napkin, and pair of wooden cutlery. And there you go–the perfect set-up for a cocktail and taco bar fiesta!
Mini piñatas are a must-have for every Cinco de Mayo party, so we also added a few mini donkeys at each place setting. They make a cute table decoration, and an even cuter party favor!
5. Pink-o de Mayo Fiesta
For our final party idea, we’re making Pink-o de Mayo a thing! All you really need to do is round up your pink decor and stock your bar cart with all the fiesta drink fixings.
This celebration calls for lots of pretty pink margaritas! To spice up your basic cocktails, we recommend topping them off with festive straws and acrylic stir sticks. And, to make any party feel a little more elevated, we include coasters and cocktail napkins with all of our drinks. (These hand painted donkey coasters and frida napkins are our current favorites!)
Since this Pink-o de Mayo party is all about the drinks, we sent our guests off with some booze-infused gummy candies. Just another fabulous Cinco de Mayo party favor your chiquititas will love!
Taco ‘bout a perfect party dessert! You can’t throw a pink themed fiesta without some Pinterest-worthy pink treats. So, we finished our Pink-o de Mayo party with these mini custard cups topped with strawberry flavored dessert tacos. So cute, and so yum!
That concludes our list of top favorite Cinco de Mayo party themes! We hope we’ve fired you up to throw your own Mexican fiesta, and celebrate the fifth of May with your friends and family. So, from our party to yours, buena suerte!
